Experiments in skintone alteration!

Nisha - Fashionista #90 on a repainted old fashionista body.

When the strikingly beautiful #90 Barbie Fashionista 'Rainbow Bright' came out a couple of years ago I just knew I had to have her. The only problem was the body; I can’t stand the lack of articulation on the current range of fashionistas, and there wasn’t a match for her very dark skin tone in the MTM range or easily available in older bodies.

I got her anyway, and her head had been lurking in a box ever since, just waiting for me to do something with it. I originally planned on getting some dye and attempting to change the colour of a MTM body but, like most of my projects, I never got round to it.

Anyway, the other day I fancied trying something else, so I dug a clone body out of my stash, (in case it went horribly wrong, lol) sanded it thoroughly, cracked the torso open and painted both sides and the limbs in black acrylic. Once dry I sprayed everything with sealer, then brushed on several coats of brown pastel, sealing in between layers.

It’s not a perfect match to the head but it’s pretty damn close! Obviously I’ll need to be careful with her as she’s a little more fragile, but I’m so glad she’s finally got herself a poseable body at last.

Her name is Nisha, and I’ll need to make her some clothes soon as this Wonder Woman dress doesn’t actually fit her in the back! 😂
