Newbies!

I meant to post this last week but er...you know the drill. XD

Anyway, I came away from the show with a handful of new arrivals and I honestly couldn't be happier with them!

First up is the gorgeous Sullivan, who'll probably be either a Connemara or another Highland for the growing herd. Her name popped into my head almost immediately, and it wasn't until I told Heather that it hit me - I'd accidentally named her after her mum's adorable black cat! 😂
Out of all the grey Julips I have, she's definitely the darkest and I've been after something similar for years, so to find it first time on my favourite mould was just perfect luck! She's had her head dropped a little too which gives her such personality!

Before she could officially join the rest of the herd however, she needed a little tweak...

The mohair Julip uses now is beautifully soft but can go insanely frizzy, as evident here once I got her home...

That just wouldn't do at all, so she went on a little trip to the grooming area in the Livery stables for a hose down and a thorough makeover.

Ria took her time to get her used to the water, but Sully wasn't bothered at all and stood quietly the whole time.

I made the background set a couple of years ago and intended to show it off properly, but I made it out of foamboard and it has unfortunately warped really rather dramatically, though it doesn't look too bad in photographs.

Next stop, the haircut!

Her hair is a much more manageable length now, so she won't trip over herself when turned out!

While she was the only horse I bought at the show, I did come away with more than a couple of other Julips...

Ever since the chickens were released, I've been wanting a few for the yard, so when I saw such a massive selection on offer I got a tad carried away...

In all fairness I won the black and white cockerel so he doesn't count...
I haven't named any of them yet, as I just can't settle on a theme for them all. My favourite is the black hen though, she's got such an appealing face and beautifully painted eyes. The speckly hen in the very middle needs some kind of evil sounding name though I think, she's definitely got a pretty sinister gaze...

Julip Chickens

I love just how varied they are, not only in colour but in mould texture and form.

The final avian member of the crew does have a name however - Farquhar the Pheasant just seemed to roll nicely off the tongue and I had great fun making him blend into the scenery of the garden for photographs.

Our final introduction in this post isn't actually a new horse but a rug! Poor Angel has been pining for a rug for months, so I finally made her one whilst binge watching cheesy UFO documentaries on Netflix the other night. I'd run out of glue so I hand sewed the entire thing - straps and edging all!

At some point I'll get round to doing her tack too, and I'm looking forward to covering it in bling and diamantes and all the tackiest pink and glittery things I can make. 😋

  1. I LOVE your new Sullivan and Angel appears quite happy in her girly girl gear. Can't wait to see how you'll eventually bling it up!
Also getting chuckle out of the hen party which is going on at the stables. Perhaps you could loosely name the brood after egg dishes i.e. Sunny-side, Benedict, Scotch, Pickled, Easy Over, Kinder, Easter, Rotten etc. etc. just a few suggestions hahahhah
    FYI -I LOVE chickens! :))

    1. Oh my god, that's such a hilarious idea! I think 'Rotten' could suit the grumpy one really well ahaha.
