Royal Highland Show 2013 (Entry 6 - Sally the Logging Horse)

Everything's under the cut!

'Sally' - Logging horse

I only spent a couple of minutes here as I didn't actually know it was going on until I virtually stumbled upon it en route to somewhere else. One section of the showground is dedicated to chainsaw sculptures and logging and things - not the kind of place you'd normally think you'd find a horse!

Logging with horses is making a comeback as it's far less destructive than dragging felled trees out with machinery and it's far more eco friendly too! Our demo horse, 'Sally' looked like she couldn't care less about the whole thing and yawned her head off while the man did up her harness.

The woman on the mic said that she only really has one speed (slow, lol) and back home she's always the last to be worked as she takes so much effort to get going! It was a warm day and she was a black horse so that probably didn't help much with her motivation.

When she eventually got going, halfway round she spotted my camera and stopped dead, as if she'd been waiting for an excuse to stand still again. XD

I felt really guilty but the people were really nice about it and let me take a couple of photos before walking her on again.

So, this concludes my RHS coverage for this year; apologies for taking SO many photos and rambling on for so long but it's my one show I can guarantee going to every year so I think I'm allowed to get a little enthusiastic. :P

  1. Sally is almost dying with excitement, I see, LOL!! Logging is getting increasingly more popular here, too. And I am very happy that some counties have employed horsemen for the woodwork again, leaving the big trucks and stuff at home.

    1. Yeah, she was raring to go. XD
Yeah, I think the fact that it's less damaging to the environment has really warmed people to the idea so it's making a comeback!
I really want to make a logging harness for one of my Julips now...
