Royal Highland Show 2013 (Entry 2 - Welsh Ponies/Cobs & Connemaras)

Ok, this post concerns the Welsh Sec B, C and Ds (I missed the Sec As unfortunately) and some rather nice Connemaras too.

Photos under the cut!

There were about three classes going on at once in the main ring which was split into sections so I had to do a lot of running about to see everything.

While the Ridden Highlands was going on in one ring, the Welsh Sec Bs were being shown next door. I think it was split by age, so there were yearlings, then the ones over four...then something else I'm sure but anyway, they were all lovely.

The dapple grey at the back here was my favourite.

Note the single plait behind the ear! That's a welshie speciality.

I've always been partial to roans (why, oh why don't Highlands have the roan gene!? D:) and this little one was beautiful - the wonky stripe making him especially cute.

This chestnut was really striking as well - nice to see one in such a lovely rich colour. I love his ears too - almost Marwariesque!

This little yearling caught my eye instantly because of the colour and for that very interesting facial marking. Silver? Some kind of dark palomino? I'm banking on silver personally...

Another eyecatcher was this little palomino stallion, complete with rabicano and Bend Or spots!

While Bend Or spots aren't new to me, I'd never seen quite that many on one pony before! You can see why some people might mistake them for appaloosa patternation if they didn't know any better.

Gorgeous, liver chestnut here - I didn't realise the handler was looking directly into the lens until I got them up on the computer, oops. XD

Another very nomable chestnut with a really funky interrupted stripe.

I managed to get a couple of close-ups of that one in the collecting ring later on.

Next door to the welshies were the Connemaras. I didn't get many shots of them as it was absolutely packed along the fenceline so I didn't get quite as many photos as I'd have liked.

I'm loving that buckskin on the right!

I moved over to the collecting ring for a bit where I managed to get a bit closer to my subjects...

There was a bit of everything present here, welshies, highlands, arabs - even the odd shetland milling around.

I moved back to the main ring for the Welsh Sec C and Ds.

Some of the mares got a little stressed when their foals were led away from them so they could be trotted up...

...some more than others!

But as soon as her foal was in sight she was back on the ground, perfectly content.

I liked them all but there was one horse that stood miles above the rest and who went on to win his class.

Menai Ambitious, a nine year old stallion with looks and movement to die for .
