Dioramas!

Now that I've finished college and have some time on my hands, I've been giving some serious thought to what I want to do with my life. I haven't quite managed to come up with much of an answer yet but one thing I really would like to do is make dioramas and bases to sell.

I'll be putting one in the post tomorrow and I've just been commissioned for another this evening by someone else so fingers crossed this is going to be a successful business for me!

This is the one I've sold - a little SM scale cross country ditch with a hole for an acrylic rod and some muddy puddles at the bottom.

A little over-keen here I think, lol.

Shot from the right angle it doubles as just an ordinary base for photo shows.

This one was really just an experiment to see how the water worked so I didn't bother finishing off the sides properly. I may be tempted to sell it though so I'd obviously tart it up a bit for the buyer.

My favourite, and definitely not for sale - (although I'd happily take on commissions for something similar!) a Stablemate scale desert oasis complete with palm trees!

Apologies for the less than professional photos; I thought I had a good desert backdrop but it appears to have gone walkabout, hence the rather incongruous use of an Australian scenic calendar which is far too short for the palm trees. XD

So yeah, I'm having great fun! XD

I'm probably going to make up a batch of small individual bases - probably coaster sized - and see how popular they are. Any suggestions for future ones would be greatly appreciated - I love trying out new techniques and things!

  1. Nice work! Those are lovely and I can definitely see people wanting to pay for them.

I do have one suggestion- if you want to sell ones for cross country (or at least, for Cross Country with capital C's) then you'll want to have a place to plug in the flag poles. Flags and numbers are required on all XC jumps for competition :) That last pic of the jumper makes me laugh- many horses jump ditches like that!

  2. Here's hoping! :D

Yeah, I realised that pretty quickly afterwards! It's a pretty small ditch though so I think you could get away without the flags if you said it was used in a schooling session or out on a hack or something. :P

I hope this goes well for you! You're so talented with miniatures/dioramas etc. :)

  4. I really like them. How much would one cost? Oh and in American dollars please.

    1. Cheers! It would depend entirely on what you wanted - obviously the bigger they'd get, the more expensive, same with the content. If you needed something really basic then it'd be cheaper than if you wanted water or trees or whatever. If you're really interested just send me a wee email with your ideas and stuff and we can go from there. :)

    1. Hello!
I'm afraid none of these are available anymore but I'd be happy to give you a quote for something similar if you'd like?
