I meant to post about him months ago but my blogging habits have been particularly bad recently, so apologies for that! This post is mostly photostory but has a guide to how I made him at the end as well.

The Curse of the Gloamglozer!
For anyone who doesn't know what that entails, for shame! You mustn't have read The Edge Chronicles!
The Edge Chronicles are a series of fantasy books; granted, aimed at children, but I first read them when I was 11 and now nearly thirteen years later (bloody hell, I didn't realise it was that long, LOL) at 23 I love them just as much, if not more than I did then. The best part about them, aside from the stories themselves which are interestingly unique in a children's series to not have 'good' and 'evil' characters but a range of those with a decidedly grey morality.
Anyway, straying from the subject somewhat - the other big plus is Chris Riddell's beautiful illustrations which have inspired and influenced my own art style and never fail to amaze me. I mean just look at them!

With an unexpected 11th book being announced this week, (the authors said they were ending it at 10!) my love for the series has been reignited and I couldn't resist making one of my favourite characters from it in 3D: The Gloamglozer!
More photos and a step-by-step guide under the cut!

Introducing Jarvis the Quarry Dragon.

I made the armature and sculpted parts of Jarvis months ago and his skeletal form's been lurking beside my tv ever since, awaiting the day when I'd come home with scaley fabric so he could actually gain a skin. XD

I finally got some yesterday when I was out with my cousin and literally sat up ALL NIGHT sewing him together. I watched several series of Still Game, followed by The Mentalist in the later hours of this morning. His legs turned out a lot skinnier than I'd have liked but then again, he's only a young 'un after all.

I think my favourite part would have to be his horns though. I'm definitely making ones like that again for a future doll...

His ears are just folded leather as I prefer the look of that to sculpted ones.

His wings can be folded and extended (although the way I stitched it rather limits how tightly he can tuck them) and his tail is made up of lots of interlocking 'plates' which I really like

He has an older and far more complicated brother still in the armature stage and I can tell you, it's going to take a good long while before he's ready to be shown off!

Widget!
I made another of my posable creatures the other day.
Originally he was supposed to be a little dragon hatchling but as I didn't have the fabric I thought I did, he ended up being more of a kind of Gryphon-like thing instead. He's fully posable, from his neck to his wings to the very tip of his extra fluffy tail. He's also the smallest doll I've made so far as he can fit in the palm of my hand. :D
Here he is before he got his fur coat. :)

In my hand for scale...

He was going to have feathered wings originally but as I didn't actually have any feathers to scale he's had to make do with furry ones instead. :P

Weeeeee!

With David for scale. Widge is only a youngster so would be about 16/17hh when fully grown...

Yeah, so I'm pretty chuffed with him as you can probably guess! :D :D

You can see him and my other stuff on my deviantArt page. :D
