Royal Highland Show 2018 - Working Hunter Pony!

This year there were thrills and spills a-plenty!

One of my favourites was this tiny little pony who proved that size is by no means everything, especially when it came to going fast and jumping!

Royal Highland Show 2017 - #11 Mini Major

I don't quite understand the rules of the Mini Major class, other than the fact that there are teams of two - a young rider and an adult in the ring at the same time, trying to complete the course as fast as possible one after the other.

What I can tell you though is that it's exhilarating to watch - those ponies can't half shift!

Royal Highland Show 2017 - #9 Ponies, Ponies, Ponies! (and Clydesdales)

After the coos, we moved on to the big stable block at the back where all the Highlands and Shetlands are housed during the show. Unfortunately the Welshies and other pony breeds seem to be kept away from public view which is a real shame.

On the way there we spotted a few decidedly un-ponylike creatures as some of the Clydesdales were readied for the harness turnout classes later on.

Shetland Family!

Yesterday Mr Shetland told me that he was feeling lonely and could I possibly rustle him up a friend... Someow I managed to produce not only a mare but a foal to go with her, all in one day! I baked them this morning and gah, love them so much! ^^

Right well, these aren't brilliant photos... (I had better ones but I accidently removed them from existance by accidently deleting the wrong folder on the computer which was...professional.)

Anyway, I decided that seeing as Mr Shetland now had a wife and kid, I may as well make him a proper him if you see what I mean. XD I also gave him eyelids which I'd forgotten to add on before his last baking.

Next up is his missus! I'm still not happy with her hind legs but meh, she's baked now so whatevs. XD I love her attitude though - typical grumpy Shetland!

Mare

Mare

I didn't take any decent shots of the foalie this time round so you'll just need to look at him in group photos. I definitely need to add some more bulk to his legs though I think.

Mare and Foal

Stallion, Mare and Foal.

Tacked up...mostly. XD

Paw, Maw and the Wean.

Here they are with Lady the Julip Welshie to show the scale.

So yeah, not bad for a day's work I think! ;D

New Sculpture and Customs in the works!

:D

The other day I had a strange compulsion to sculpt something. A pony, my brain told me, you want to make a pony.

So, I did. :D

Shetland

Shetland

He's made from Super Sculpey over a foil and wire armature and I absolutely love him. ^^ (and yes I know he's not really a 'he' physically but meh, deal. :P)

I automatically made him in scale with my Julips so here he is with Lady the grumpy Welsh mare and Rhu the New Forest.

Shetland

Of course none of my riders could resist him so, despite a lack of tack, Sarah hopped on for a quick ride.

Shetland

This is my favourite side I think.

I'm not sure whether to drill a hole in his erm..posterior :P for a tail or sculpt a dock - either way he's going to be haired!

Whilst still on the topic of sculpting, I mentioned in a past comment that I'd been attempting to make some heads for 1:6th scale figures. While they aren't as good as I'd have liked, they are definitely improving with each one!

First up is this one - originally supposed to be female but I'm starting to reconsider. He has a very downtrodden look about him so I might try to make him look a bit more like Kes...

Crap painting is indeed, crap.

Headsculpt attempt #1

Next is this, I'm really rather pleased with how she turned out and although I used the black beads purely for the shape of the eyes, I really love how shiny they are so I might make her an alien for the sake of convienience and let her keep them as they are. XD

Headsculpt attempt #2

Typically I've made more heads than I actually have bodies for so I'll need to rectify that at some point soon. :P

Headsculpt attempt #2

The holes are to mark where her ears will eventually go - I -hated- sculpting them on the first one so I'm hoping the second lot will look better! The line around the middle needs sorting out too - I made the face part first and added in the rest of the skull after the first trip to the oven.

This one really came about as an accident while I was faffing around with the first one - I kept messing around and ended up with err...this. XD

Alien headsculpt. XD

It's sci fi, it's allowed! :P

Next up, is possibly my most drastic custom in a long, long time - (and nope, I haven't finished any of the others I've posted about! XD) a Magpie Welshie repositioned to a flashy trot. Normally I'd avoid anything this complicated like the plague but after finding out that my mum had a heatgun in the cupboard how could I resist? :P His neck is probably a bit too short but it's taken so long to get his head reattached that at this point I really don't care! He's called Janus. (reason being, Magpies come in two parts and while heatgunning his neck, his face split in half. XD)

Here he is on the left with a customised one - Rocky - to show what he started off like.

After and (Before)

I want to plait him up and make him a little leadrein setup for showing in the summer. :D
